Charity, church services and cheer as Australians give back on Christmas Day

Many Australians spent Christmas giving back to others, visiting hospitals and volunteering at charitable community meals. 

The beaches were full, with perfect weather at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, drawing locals and tourists alike.

And midnight mass proved popular last night, with some churches welcoming delegations from the Jewish community in a special show of unity.
