A 38-year-old man has been charged with eight counts of attempted murder after allegedly driving his car at a group of pedestrians.

Four passengers in a van, who are yet to be formally identified, died at the scene, north of Shepparton in Victoria. Five injured people, including three children and the male driver, were taken to various hospitals.
