In short:

Melbourne is forecast to hit a high of 17 degrees on Christmas Day — the city's fourth-coldest December 25 on record.

The city's average maximum this December is sitting on 24.1C, thanks to a few very hot days mixed in with the cooler weather.

But it's not all bad news for warm weather lovers, with above-average temperatures expected in the new year.
