In short:

Tasmania's tourism industry has blasted the state government for pushing forward with plans for a 5 per cent levy on short-stay accommodation.

The levy, to be paid by people who stay at properties run by providers like Airbnb and Stayz, was promised during the 2024 state election campaign.

What's next?

If the law passes, the levy will come into effect on July 1 next year.
