In short:

FIFA has announced a record prize pool of $US655 million for next year's men's World Cup.

The winners will be awarded $US50 million, less than half of what Chelsea earned for claiming the recent Club World Cup.

The amount is more than six times the women's equivalent, just two years out from FIFA's target tournament for equal pay.
