In short:

Donald Trump has ordered a "total and complete" blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.

The US president claimed the blockade was in response to Venezuelan theft of US assets, terrorism, drug smuggling and human trafficking.

What's next?

Mr Trump has said recently that the US could soon launch military land strikes on Venezuela, after a months-long military build-up in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean.
