In short:

Ukraine has dropped its ambition to join the NATO military alliance in exchange for Western security guarantees, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says.

It marks a major shift for Ukraine and meets one of Russia's war aims, although Kyiv has so far held firm against ceding territory to Moscow.

What's next?

Peace talks between Mr Zelenskyy, US envoys and European leaders will be held in Berlin on Monday.
