In short:

Residents of Tasmania's Dolphin Sands community say they have, on multiple occasions, urged authorities to tighten rules around planned burns, but no action was taken.

Dolphin Sands has been under threat from bushfires on a regular basis, with incidents in 2012, 2013, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023 — before a fire earlier this month destroyed 19 homes and damaged dozens of other assets.

What's next?

On Tuesday, the Tasmania Fire Service said it hoped to create a bushfire-prevention strategy alongside the community.
