The Australian government will be banning social media access for Australians under the age of sixteen as of December the 10th. Many young artists may find themselves unsure of what to do in the absence of these platforms.
If you're a young Australian artist who has, or is about to have their social media platforms frozen - we're still here.
You'll always be able to access triple j Unearthed platform to connect with community. Review each others songs, engage with other artists and share your music on your artist profile to reach your fans.
We'll be continuing to use our Unearthed social platforms to promo young Australian artists in a period where many of you can't showcase your own music there. There're a few other changes we'll be putting in place to help spotlight young, emerging artists.
The first of these is that we'll be moving Unearthed High forward in 2026 to the first half of the year to try to elevate high school age Australian voices as soon as possible. We've also developed an in depth resource for high school music teachers, to help them make making modern music a part of your classwork. So keep making your music, and have it ready to upload for April 2026 (if not before).
Additionally, we're developing a music industry resource hub for the triple j Unearthed website where artists of all ages can access expert advice on how to navigate music, artistry, the industry and their career.
We'll also be looking at other ways we can help artists connect directly with each other using triple j Unearthed in the months ahead.
Young Australian artists - we love you and we’re here for you, no matter what happens.
