Tropical Cyclone Fina passed north of Darwin on Saturday as a compact yet powerful category three system, bringing damaging gale force winds and unprecedented torrents of rain in parts of the city.
The rare November cyclone, with wind gusts at its core reaching almost 200km/h, moved slowly, pushing over massive trees, damaging homes, cars and infrastructure, and forcing hundreds of people to seek out emergency shelters.
Widespread power outages left about 19,500 homes without electricity.
On Tuesday, thousands of people are still without electricity, with recovery recovery and clean-up efforts are well under way.
