In short:

From December 8, commuters will be able to swipe onto buses, trains and ferries in Perth using their bank cards, phones and smart watches.

It follows a successful four-week trial, allowing people other ways than SmartRider cards to tag on and off and pay for their journeys.

What's next?

The state government says the upgrades will be monitored and the different payment options could "merge into one" over time.
