Concussion protocols should be strengthened following Eliesa Katoa incident, neuroscientist says

A leading concussion expert has called for sporting bodies to strengthen their protocols on players who are concussed before and during matches.

It follows a harrowing incident during the rugby league Pacific Championships when Eliesa Katoa was hospitalised and underwent brain surgery after suffering multiple blows to the head.

What's next?

Neuroscientist Alan Pearce, an expert in chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), says a similar situation to Katoa's should not be allowed to happen again.
