In short:

Infrastructure Victoria has joined calls for the Victorian government to duplicate and extend the Upfield train line in Melbourne's north, as part of a 30-year road map for the state.

The 4km of single-line track means trains can only run every 15-20 minutes, even during peak times.

What's next?

A state government spokesperson says current plans for the Upfield Line are focused on building two new accessible stations in Brunswick and removing level crossings.
