Former March for Australia organiser shut down at latest anti-racism rally

The organiser of a March for Australia rally held in Adelaide two months ago has distanced himself from that movement "because of the racism", choosing to attend a counter-rally on Sunday instead.

But while Mark Aldridge was explaining to the ABC why he had switched events, he was interrupted by anti-racism rally organiser Natasha Wanganeen, who told him "not to do interviews at my event".

Mr Aldridge — a former candidate for One Nation and other conservative minor parties, who is running for his own party, United Voice Australia, at March's state election — had organised the August 31 March for Australia rally on the steps of Parliament House in Adelaide.

That protest ended when a man who identified himself as a member of the National Socialist Network took to the stage to call for an end to immigration, sparking an altercation.

Organisers said at the time that the National Socialist Network had not been invited to speak, and they attempted to stop the speech but were met with resistance.

On Sunday, Mr Aldridge was in the crowd at the Rally Against Racism in Victoria Square, choosing not to attend the second March for Australia rally that was circling around the CBD nearby.

Asked why he was not attending the second rally, Mr Aldridge said: "Because of the racism."

"The initial rally when I got involved was meant to be about the lack of supply of services for the migration numbers they were bringing in," he said.

"I tried to send that messaging, and it was very quickly assessable that that wasn't the messaging that was meant to be on the day."

Mr Aldridge said he had "caused more trouble internally in that movement than I planned to do".

"Racism just has no place in Australia," he said.

Mr Aldridge was then interrupted by Indigenous actress and advocate Natasha Wanganeen, who had walked up to him from behind from the other side of the rally.

She told him, "No, you are not to do interviews at my event."

Mr Aldridge replied, "They [the ABC] asked me, sorry," before backing away from the camera.

Ms Wanganeen replied, "I don't care, no."

She then told the ABC: "Please don't show that, he is not — do not do that," before turning back to Mr Aldridge.

"Please stop, just sit down and enjoy the show, you've done too much."

'Police suggested I leave'

Mr Aldridge later claimed on Facebook that he had been banned from the March for Australia rally but had been "invited by an organiser to the anti-racism rally".

"Mended a few bridges, but them [sic] media wanted to interview me," he said.

"Which cause [sic] an issue with another, so police who I knew suggested I leave, which I did, shame."

Mr Aldridge said he then "drove past" Sunday's March for Australia rally and spoke with some people who attended.

The organiser of the second march, Anne Marlow, rejected Mr Aldridge's racism accusations.

"We are not racist," she said.

"It is all about our country and not seeing it go down the gurgler.

"We want to put a complete halt on mass migration and then introduce people into this country on a skills-needs basis."

The second March for Australia rally in Adelaide attracted thousands of people on Sunday, but the turnout was much lower than the first rally in August.

Hundreds gathered in Victoria Square for the Rally Against Racism.

Both protests were peaceful, with police only reporting one arrest near the intersection of Morphett Street and Light Square, where the March for Australia rally was circling.

"All crowds were well behaved, with a 36-year-old Yankalilla woman arrested for disorderly behaviour and refuse to state name and address," SA Police said in a statement.

"She was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 9 December."
