AGE ASSURANCE STUDY
The social media ban. Will it work or not? That's the question being asked again today as the results of an age assurance technology study have dropped. With just 100 days to go until the social media ban kicks in, this study had a lot riding on it. And while the results say it's technically possible to determine someone's age with a reasonable degree of confidence", it's far from flawless. The study tested the accuracy, usability and privacy of 60 types of age assurance tech, and the big one was facial scanning. In fact, they tested this over 28,000 times, but results show it's still struggling to get ages bang on. And for girls, older adults, and non-white faces, it's even less accurate. So it's recommended that kids are directed to a second stage of verification, like checking government ID, but the report also says this has its own privacy risks, with some companies holding onto more of that data than they needed to. There are other solutions too, like estimating age based on account behaviour, but the results found they aren't perfect either. So the current takeaway is: there's no one-size-fits-all solution. But government officials say the ban will be more successful if social media companies work together to figure out a verification method that works best for everybody.

ANTI-IMMIGRATION PROTESTS
Tens of thousands of people around the country turned out to march against immigration on Sunday. The March for Australia rallies called for a reduction to "mass migration", which they blame for issues like the cost of living crisis. But many, including the Australian government, have labelled the rallies as racist.

F1
Yep, Oscar's done it again! The McLaren driver led the action packed race right from the start, with his teammate Lando Norris nipping at his heels. But, the battle came to a grinding halt for Lando. Norris had to quit the race with only seven laps to go! But Oscar's McLaren powered on, taking him to his ninth career win!

WALLAROOS
At the Women's Rugby World Cup in England, Australia's Wallaroos drew 31-all in a nail-biting game against the USA. Teenage stars Desiree Miller and Caitlyn Halse scored two tries each for the Aussies, but a hattrick from USA's Freda Tafuna helped bring her team back into the battle. The Wallaroos will now face England next week with hopes of heading to the quarter finals.

SYDNEY MARATHON
And finally to the Sydney Marathon, where around 35-thousand people from around the world took on the gruelling 42.2 Kilometre course! Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands won the women's race, crossing the finish line in two hours, eighteen minutes and 22 seconds, smashing the women's record by more than three minutes! Ethiopia's Hailemaryam Kiros won the men's event with a time of two hours, six minutes and six seconds, the fastest person to ever run a marathon in Australia!

ROWING RECORD
First up, to three brothers from Scotland who have just set a new world record for rowing all the way from Peru to Australia. It took them 139 days to cross the Pacific ocean, a roughly 14000 kilometer trip, surviving off a diet of freshly caught fish and some freeze-dried food. Along the way, they managed to raise more than 1.6 million dollars for a charity.

NIGHT SWIM
Now to Denmark, where swimmers donning light-up floaties took part in a big nighttime swim. Looping around Copenhagen's waterways… the course is about 2 kilometres long. It's just one of a few big swims happening around town as part of the city's annual swimming festival.

GINGER FESTIVAL
And finally, to a festival in Netherlands all about celebrating red hair. Thousands of redheads travelled from all over the world to take part in the yearly event, which started about 20 years ago when a photographer put a call out for 15 red-haired models for an art project and ended up getting ten times that! So it only made sense to do it again the following year, and the rest is history.
