In short:

Researchers at Chalmers University in Sweden have discovered a process to create fabric from wheat straw and oat husks.

Oil-based polyester makes up 65 to 70 per cent of the world's fabric, and scientists are looking for more sustainable options.

What's next?

Australian researchers say there is an opportunity to explore the method here.
